Macht Kunst! City Video Future

3rd Edition

deadline:June 30th, 2017

What will life be like in 100 years?
What transformations lie ahead for our cities and their residents?
The video art competition “MACHT KUNST! city video future”, presented by Deutsche Bank and UFA, is open to short films devoted to these issues. The occasion for the competition is the 100th anniversary of UFA, Germany’s most important film production company. The two partners can look back on a long history. In 1925, Deutsche Bank helped finance Fritz Lang’s legendary masterpiece “Metropolis.” Taking this science-fiction classic as a point of departure, “MACHT KUNST! city video future” seeks artistic short films focusing on the theme of “My city in 100 years.” Videos can be submitted that develop a futurist vision of the city or investigate the metropolis of the future. The videos can have a duration of 100 seconds to a maximum of 10 minutes.
An expert jury will choose the prizewinners. Alongside Josephine Ackerman, (Deputy Global Head Art, Culture & Sports Deutsche Bank) and Wolf Bauer (Co-CEO UFA GmbH), Maike Mia Höhne (curator of the short film competition of the Berlinale), and the artist Basim Magdy (Deutsche Bank “Artist of the Year” 2016) will nominate 20 videos to be included in a shortlist and to receive three awards.
Within the framework of the 20th Long Night of Museums, these 20 videos will be on view on August 19 and 20, 2017 in the atrium of Deutsche Bank Unter den Linden in Berlin. The jury will select the three winners from the shortlist. The first prize is endowed with 7,000 euros and a one-year mentorship with a renowned UFA producer, the second with 5,000 euros, and the third with 3,000 euros. The jury prizes will be announced on August 19, 2017, at 7 p.m. in the atrium of Deutsche Bank Unter den Linden during the exhibition opening. In addition, the audience has the possibility to select its favorite video from the shortlist at the location on August 19 and 20, 2017 (by ballot) or online from August 21 to 27. The audience prize will be announced online on August 28, 2017.
