The Canadian Film Centre’s Worldwide Short Film Festival is the premier venue for the exhibition and promotion of short film in Canada and one of the leading short film festivals in the world. Now in its eleventh year, the Festival was founded by Brenda Sherwood in 1994 and acquired by the Canadian Film Centre in 2000.
The Worldwide Short Film Festival is dedicated to celebrating and sharing with audiences the exciting world of short film. In addition to competition screenings of international and Canadian shorts, theFestival features special presentations, retrospectives and gala screenings.
The Worldwide Short Film Festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences®. Award-winning films in this festival will be eligible for consideration for the Academy Awards.
Over $60,000 in cash and prizes is awarded to winners, making this one of the largest prize-giving short film festivals in the world. Awards are offered in each category, with additional awards to be announced in the lead up to the festival.
