The Sydney Film Festival is one of the longest running events of its kind in the world. Each year the festival brings the best new films from around the world to audiences right here in Sydney. As well as brand new features from over forty countries, we screen short films, Australian films, documentaries and archive titles, many of which are recently restored. The festival hosts a number of awards to recognise excellence in filmmaking, including the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, (which are Academy Award eligible), the FOXTEL Australian Documentary Awards and the Official Competition, which celebrates 'courageous and audacious filmmaking'.
The festival is for everyone. Whether you're a dedicated film buff who takes two weeks off work and buys a subscription to the State Theatre, or a busy film fan eager to catch the latest movie before its Australian release, you are welcome at the Sydney Film Festival. If you think you want to see a few films, buy a FlexiPass, the cheapest and easiest way to experience the festival. There are a wide range of FREE talks and forums to help you make the most out of the films you see.
The Sydney Film Festival is now open for submissions from Australian and New Zealand productions; features, documentaries and short films, subject to our eligibility requirements.
To submit an Australian or New Zealand production, please fill out the form below and click 'submit'. In addition to completing the online form you must pay your entry fee via our secure online payment site (link below) and submit a copy (or copies) of your film on DVD to the festival office. Please include a printed and signed copy of your online form with your DVD(s). If your film is selected to screen at the festival, you will be asked to provide more information and supplementary materials.
Entries from other countries are by invitation only, if you would like to be considered for submission, please email details of your film, including film title, a short synopsis, details of the film's director and producer and screening history (including awards) to jenny@sff.org.au.
