In the late 1980s Matteo, a student and aspiring screenwriter, meets Livia in the timeless city of Rome. The feeling that arises between them fails to come to fulfilment: she moves to London. Years later, Matteo is a journalist, married and father of two children, when Livia suddenly reappears in his life. She carries a secret, and her presence in Rome is not a coincidence.
