1964, the golden age of Italian cinema, an era of great auteurs admired the world over. An underground network also exists, however, located between Via Veneto, Cinecittà and the Lazio countryside, attempting to make low-budget films to pay off debts and satisfy popular audiences. Tanio Boccia, "the worst director in Italian cinema" and a genius in the art of getting by, belongs to this world.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
When Galliano Juso asked me to direct Il grande Boccia, a film he had dreamt of making for thirty years, I enthusiastically accepted. I loved the story, its comedic and production potential, the chance to depict a famous era from a lesser-known perspective, and the poetry of a life filled with great personal victories and resounding failures. I accepted, even if I understood the challenges I would face. However, I could never have imagined that the combination of those two characters, Juso and Boccia, would result in such an adventurous production. That was 2017, the film is only now ready and Galliano is no longer with us. We did it in the end, and I am proud of having undertaken this journey into the world of Tanio Boccia and of having made the last film of the unforgettable Galliano Juso.
