Giuseppe Dattola is an old man of 75 who worked in Switzerland for thirty years for a company called Broyer. At the age of 60 he retired and returned home to Porto Badisco in the Salento region where his family had always lived. He is married to Antonietta and has two children, Roberto and Lucia.
The latter is a single mother with a seven year-old daughter called Carla who is blind and on the waiting list for a corneal transplant.
Following a heart attack, Giuseppe Dattola gains a different insight into the value of life and decides to put his things in order starting with Carla’s operation. This becomes his number one priority. He returns to Switzerland to ask his former boss for help. But instead of being welcomed, Giuseppe is made to feel the immigrant Italian worker who is begging at the feet of the rich Swiss businessman and something reveals a totally unexpected reality to him.
