Vittorio is a composer friend of Alberto’s who had lost sight of him a long time before. His occasional visit provokes an irreversible crisis in Tony’s life. She realises how her inner life is flat and resigned, she is depressed. The key to her problem is in the two men’s opposite natures: on one hand Alberto, whose behaviour is beyond complaint, he is intelligent and kind; on the other Vittorio, who refuses all the people around him. Alberto reveals progressively his real rational cold nature. While Vittorio let his imagination and intense emotions emerge, in contrast with Tony’s desperation. Tony is attracted to Vittorio, but she cannot understand the deepest meaning of his hardness, she feels almost persecuted and in deep anxiety. She would like a relationship with him, but that seems impossible.
Tony’s rebirth happens together with the discovery of Vittorio and his world of imagination and feelings, previously lost to her. Now her relationship with Vittorio brings it back to life.
