In the porters lodge of Palazzo Farnese the custodian Emilia reigns, she is married to a jailer at Castel Sant’Angelo, and is a tough housewife hardly noticed by the comings and goings of Scarpia’s carriage, and she never gets upset by the shouting or the unusual traffic in the building. One night Iride turns up at the porters lodge, the wife of the beater Scarpia and a former actress.
Liberally based on Puccini’s opera, Tosca.
