Who is behind the dreadful feats of the ‘Mostro della Striscia di Bosco’ ("The Monster of the wood’s strip"), one of the most pitiless criminals in history? How can a single man rape, devour and kill more than 50 children and teenagers without leaving a single trace through the boundless territory of what was once called the Soviet Union?
We’re at the end of the eighties. The detective Vadim Timurovic Lesiev, a young magistrate and father, must urgently solve this dreadful riddle. Lesiev is a perfect communist, but so is the murderer. In fact, the monster hides behind the misshapen smile and the magnetic gaze of Professor Andrej Romanovic Evilenko, who teaches history of Russian Literature at an orphanage in the suburbs of Moscow. Evilenko is a sick man, terribly ill. He is schizophrenic. His schizophrenia makes him strong, cunning, elusive. In the ‘pneumatic’ vacuum of the Communist regime, mental illnesses have increased unchecked and have created invulnerabile monsters.
It is necessary to get into the monster’s mind in order to unmask and capture him. It's necessary to try to understand things that are intolerable even just to think about.
From the novel "Il comunista che mangiava i bambini" (Editor’s Note:: The Communist who ate children), by David Grieco.
