We entered someone else’s home, afraid we might be disturbing him. We did not wish to impose upon this wounded territory with a gaze of curiosity for its own sake. The few remaining citizens of Amatrice, opened their doors to us, welcomed us without tears, offering us hospitality and affection. One year on from the earthquake occured, the pain is easing, thoughts are no turned to reconstruction. The rubble has not been cleared, though, they say that will take time. And the future, perhaps, is still distant. G
