What are we talking about when we talk of negotiation? About concessions made by the State to the Mafia in exchange for the cessation of its terror campaign? About who assassinated the judges Falcone and Borsellino? About the eternal coexistence between Mafia and politicians? Between Mafia and Church? Between Mafia and police? Or is there something else? A group of actors stage the most important episodes of the affair known as the “State-Mafia negotiation,” impersonating Mafiosi, secret service agents, senior officers, magistrates, victims and assassins, Freemasons, honest and courageous people and people who are courageous up to a certain point. Thus one of the most tangled affairs in Italian history becomes a riveting tale.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES
When directors are asked in interviews “What do you like about your job?” I often hear them respond “I like telling stories.” It’s an excellent way of giving a short answer to an impossible question, but it does sound a bit banal. And yet if they were to ask me now “What did you like about making this film?” I would reply “I liked being able to tell this story.”
