Ashes is a portrait of the contemporary Italy through the eyes of the hinterland of Sardinia: the Barbagia. This region, characterized by a deep sentiment of independence from the Government and injured by a past of poverty, banditry and blood feuds, has a rough and harsh carnival with pre-historical roots. From the grafti of the pre-nuragic caves until today, the ancestral rite of life and death perpetuates: the collapse of the industrial system and the workers' resistance for their job share with the pastoral system the conscience of death and sacrifice. Everything is ashes, everything is pollen and bud, everything is the waiting for the new spring in the eternal sacrifice of our human being.
