It’s summer time in Romagna, seaside region in the north of Italy. Violante, a 8 years old tomboy, gets prepared to take part in a breakdance contest in a camping facility by the beach. In spite of her young age, she has a clear idea of what she likes: sports, super-heroes, soccer uniforms and breakdance. And she can’t stand anything pink, purple or fuchsia. Even if some of her classmates make fun of her, she doesn’t give up. Her parents, Silvia and Mauro, supports her no matter what clothes she wants to wear. “Who said that girls can’t be strong?” asks her dad.
“I hate pink!” is a portrait of a modern family and an insight into the everyday life of a gender nonconforming child.
