AmalaTerra is a documentary that captures the tragedy caused by Xylella, a bacterium that has been attacking olive trees in the Salento area (Italy) in the past ten years, and which is still relentlessly continuing its lethal journey.
The spread of the disease is putting to the test not only the Apulian economy but also its wonderful landscape. More than sixty million olive trees are likely to decline as well as the tradition of a land that, for thousands of years, has considered its olive trees and olive oil its most precious good.
The docufilm lays bare the lives of the characters who take part in it: simple peasants, major agronomists and entrepreneurs who have sought to eradicate the disease with all their strengths.
