With fathers who are struggling to fulfil their duties as guides and mothers left on their own to try to keep the pieces together, the families of the prisoners reveal complex needs and fragility. And while Mario and Christian, as so many other men who are serving their sentences in prison, strive to assert their right to parenthood, on the other side their children express deep emotional and educational needs. Luckily, these families, whose stories are hinged on the District Prison of Lucera - a town in the north of Apulia - are not alone. Alongside them constantly operate two voluntary associations: every day working outside and inside the prison walls, always on the side of children and their parents.
