In a village in Southern Italy, on the border between Campania and Lucania, a baron reduced to poverty tries to give order to a serious of events: what happened in the past years? How did the irreversibile crisis of his rural world begin?
It all seems to have started with a disappearance of a woman during a magic show, and with her search carried out by her elderly husband, Tarullo, who also eventually disappeared.
The baron's memories are woven together with the ones of Tarullo and with the reminiscences of other characters: a father and his son, and a private detective, who is investigating the case.
Stories and memories become stratified and interpenetrate one another, until they lead to the political and temporal collapse of a magical world. At the end, everything fades into an indistinct memorial abyss which dissolves into an underground escape in time. Here, perhaps, it is finally possible to meet again.
