In a not-too-distant future, a family lives in a highly capitalist society, obsessed with consumerism and electronic gadgets. Billy, a dreamy twelve-year-old passionate about astronomy, discovers that his father has put his future in debt to buy gadgets, destroying his dream of becoming an astronaut and traveling to Mars. Twenty years later, we see the consequences of this choice on his life. In parallel, Francesco Berardi, who survived an attempted suicide after his wife died in a car accident, slips into madness while fighting against the injustices of society. Despite his descent into madness, his ten-year-old daughter Teresa, influenced by her father, imagines a more just and harmonious world.
