1943, outskirts of Matera. Nichi is a partisan whose husband is a prisoner of the Germans. She is limping back to her Brigade’s hideout, her body aching from countless wounds, her thoughts fixed on her husband. She knows she won’t be able to see him again: the militia has just arrested her for the second time, and if she tries to go on another mission, it’s certain death.
However, at the Brigade’s hideout, there’s no one. Only a courier and a woman in a fur coat, who absolutely must leave the city that night. To make that happen, Nichi is the only one available.
Two women who couldn’t be more different set off together into the night, crossing fields and forests while German soldiers patrol the nearby paths. The journey brings them closer, binding them together, and by the time they reach the safe house, the two women have forged a bond of friendship, respect, and affection. It is then that Nichi discovers that the woman she’s been accompanying is none other than Mussolini’s favorite daughter.
