When Michele is confined to life in a "favela" on account of his difficult past, he takes to spying on humanoids through his binoculars, on a sort of strange safari trip in reverse. The favela turns out to be his salvation - a purgatory of penitence and loneliness that both keeps him alive and threatens to extinguish him. The favela is a metaphor of the love that he desperately seeks together with other forest dwellers, he even builds a new bathroom in the hope of maybe enticing a woman to come and live by his side. Under a sky streaked with chemicals and threatening an imminent storm, his detached but personal view of the world that surrounds him becomes as lapidary as the “tunz tunz“ of 1990s dance music.
