One hundred days aboard rescue vessels in the Central Mediterranean, saving lives that were going adrift on cheap rubber boats. Nine journeys between Greece and the Balkans, in order to tell the greatest human tragedy of our pre-pandemic times. Ants stems from these experiences and tells the lives of people moving like ants along the routes that take them to Europe, in pursuit of a better future, just like the migrants in John Steinbeck's masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath – of which we hear an extraordinarily contemporary quote read for us by Bruce Springsteen in the opening of the movie – written more than eighty years ago in another continent and yet tremendously relevant today.
