Modo Locrio, Locrian Scale, ἁρμονία Λοκριστί (Locrian harmony), are the names given over the centuries to a musical mode that has influenced much of traditional Mediterranean music.
The Locrian musical mode is built around a diminished chord, and great composers have been inspired by this scale, Brahms, Šostakóvič, Stravinskij, Bartòk, from Jazz to the contemporary Icelandic singer Björk.
This ancestral musical scale leads into the fascinating world of musical harmony treatises by Euclid, Cleonides and Aristoxenus and to the musical school founded by the Locrian poet and musician Senocrito.
The Documentary on the Locrian Musical Scala Festival - Locrian Department - was conceived as a container, a multidisciplinary platform in which to bring together contemporary artistic languages, to activate a dialogue with the cultural deliveries of the Calabrian city of Locri Epizephiri, an ancient Greek colony. An intercultural operation structured around the Locrian Musical Scale, known and studied in all the conservatories of the world.
