Mario Fantin: director, mountaineer, explorer. Filmmaker of numerous international climbing expeditions, starting with the Italian conquest of K2 in 1954, Mario Fantin was a tireless narrator of mountains, peoples and extreme expeditions, known all over the world. He spent half his life with a camera in hand, making dozens of films and publications and thousands of photographs. At a certain point, animated by the need to collect and preserve the history of non-European expeditions, he shut himself up at home and put together the world's largest mountain exploration archive. In 1980, after a life of incredible adventures, while in his house in Bologna – a place that, by then, he had transformed into a huge repository - Fantin took an extreme decision. From that moment on, he was forgotten; a sad fate for a man who dedicated his life to the importance of memory. His story has never been told before.
