In 2008, Le Macabre - a small Italian CBGB's - shut down for good. Just like the famous New York venue that saw the birth of the American new wave scene, Le Macabre was one of the hubs of the growth and affirmation of Italian rock in the 1980s and the 1990s. The similarities end here because our tale takes place not in a world capital but in a small town in the sleepy Italian province. Yet in Bra just as in New York, for a while the amplifiers fired loud music, hundreds of musicians ploughed a stage that for more than one generation of young people became somehow mythical. Manuel Agnelli, Marlene Kunz, Diaframma, Africa Unite, Subsonica, Massimo Volume, Roy Paci, Ezio Bosso, Vinicio Capossela, Tiromancino, Devovo, C.C.C.P, Nico of the Velvet Underground and Thin White Rope are just a few of the names that passed through Bra to land at Le Macabre. Through the words of some of these musicians, Le Macabre tells a small world in which an entire generation of Italians can recognize themselves.
