The story of a violin and its tree, tells the story of all violins. It tells all those violins that for centuries have been bearers of beauty and music. Of how a musical instrument for centuries proposes its magic.
It all starts from the woods and the story of Marcello, a retired forester. For years his job has been to live among the trees in the woods, choose them and give them a second life, or get into the hands of a luthier.
Elisabetta is a luthier from Cremona. He decided to recover the tradition of Cremonese violin making. To do this she had to start from scratch, returning to study the ancient tools and taking back simple work tools. Closed in her workshop, she began a constant search for unattainable perfection, building her identity as a luthier. Her instruments are played by many musicians all over the world.
The magic continues when the violin passes through the hands of the musician. It is the moment in which the violin makes its voice heard, bringing with it the soul of the forest.
Alessandro Quarta, internationally renowned musician, virtuoso violinist, plays an ancient instrument from 1723. He always carries him with your and treats him with love. The voice of his violin seems to be like the thousand breaths of the fir trees of the woods. Theirs is a lifelong love relationship.
The story alternates between the lives of the three characters and counterpointed by music performed by Alessandro.
Cremona is told, still the cradle of the construction of this ancient instrument; the Violin Museum which houses some of the most important and priceless violins in the history of violin making; the Val di Fiemme, cradle of centuries-old forests of spruces and especially of resonance firs, the same firs used centuries ago by the Cremona school of Stradivari, Amati and Guarneri.
The story wants to be a story of music and life but also of respect for the environment. As Marcello explains, it is the forest that gives us all the answers, that makes us choose the right tree and that only asks us not to be violated, but lived.
