The death of celluloid film is the human story of those who have been its makers over the past century, among millions of images imprinted and maintained by cellulose from 1895 to the present. For 30 years, Angelo Bottan has devoted himself to this work with passion: he is the last survivor, along with a few colleagues, of the historic development and printing laboratory in Milan, which saw the images of great Italian filmmakers come to life. Angelo does not want to give up and struggles to keep up his world destined to die away from the spotlight. Ultimo Film goes inside the lab among tubes, emulsions and noisy machinery to recount the last 20 days of its life. Outside, towering symbols of the city's transformation stand out, an aerial gaze explores them, like a suspended spaceship about to depart. Angelo has a card to play, a chance to save the lab, but will he be able to avoid giving in to what seems inevitable and carry on his increasingly lonely battle?
