The film is first of all a reading of poems by Cesare Zavattini (writer, poet, playwright, director and father of the Italian neorealism), dedicated to Luzzara, his hometown and to the Po River, less than a kilometer away. Thanks to the voices of some inhabitants of Luzzara, Zavattini's words and world revive together with the "mythology" born around the town of Luzzara, which became Il Paese, after Paul Strand photographed it along the banks of the Po River in 1953 together with his community. Since then, Luzzara and its inhabitants are visited and portrayed by photographers from all over the world.
