Emiliano is a seventy-year-old man living in France, where he chose to stay after finding refuge there 40 years earlier, when in Italy he would have ended up in prison for being part of a subversive organization. He returns to Naples, his hometown, to say goodbye to Ciro, his fellow activist who has passed away forever. In Naples, Emiliano meets Ornella, Ciro's granddaughter, who, together with her boyfriend Cosimo, runs a community center in an old building with a large garden that belonged to her grandfather. Mattia, Ciro's son and Ornella's father, now that he has inherited it, would like to make a completely different use of the building. He doesn't agree with the rest of the family. The boys resist Mattia's pressure, and Emiliano stays in Naples to help them.
