In the Argentine Pampas of the early 1980s, a mysterious Italian traveler tells two young lovers the story of a summer that seemed never to end: Saint-Tropez, 1968, the golden season of music, art, cinema, fashion, glamour, and freedom. At the center of the story is Gigi Rizzi, a charming twenty-four-year-old playboy, both classy and reckless, who, along with his friends Beppe and Franco, Les Italiens, conquers the nights of the French Riviera and even steals the heart of the ultimate icon: Brigitte Bardot. Their love, overwhelming and impossible, chronicled by tabloids halfway around the world, is a moment of pure light—a “now” without past or future—lived as if the world would never change. But summer, like every dream, comes to an end: the revolution of ’68 reaches Saint-Tropez as well, reality demands its place, and Gigi finds himself alone, carrying the scent of an illusion that will stay with him forever. When the train departs through the Pampas, the two young people do not know whether to believe this story, but in the light of the sunset lingers the doubt that it might all be true. Because perhaps, somewhere, summer never really ended.
