In the summer of 1961, legendary Italian alpinist Walter Bonatti sets out to conquer the last unscaled face of Mont Blanc: the deadly Central Pillar of Frêney, a 600-meter vertical wall leading to the mountain’s summit. At his side are his trusted partners, Andrea Oggioni and Roberto Gallieni.
On their way up, they cross paths with a competing French rope team led by Pierre Mazeaud. The summit is within reach when a savage storm strikes, trapping them on the pillar for four days and nights without food, shelter, or escape. Against the fury of the elements, the two rope teams unite.
What began as a quest for glory becomes a fight for survival.
