Valeria Gavrylyuk, a nine-years-old Ukrainan girl, arrives in Italy as a refugee with her mother and little brother during the Russo-Ukrainan conflict. She begins attending a school in Milan and quickly makes friends with her classmates, who help her with homework. The only one missing is her father, a skilled hockey player. He has chosen to stay in Ukraine, but not to engage in combat. In Milan, Valeria joins a rhythmic gymnastics course with Anca Goia, a Romanian rhythmic gymnastics Olympic champion. A beautiful friendship develops between teacher and student. In Italy, Valeria starts winning gold medals and dreams of becoming a skilled professional athlete.
