At the end of the Second World War, approximately 25,000 Italians, both military and civilian, remained trapped in Albania. By 1955, most were repatriated, but hundreds remained stuck there, like Pierino Cieno, one of the many children of Italian and Albanian parents, interned with his mother in a camp. Only after the fall of the communist regime, after forty years of living in the dream of his father and Italy, Pierino found freedom and reached Italy.
