Dètour De Seta takes the viewer on a journey through the places that were both inspiration for and subject of Vittorio De Seta's films. In the words of the documentary's filmmaker, Salvo Cuccia, "We visited Sicily once again, we retraced his steps, just as he did at the end of the seventies with La Sicilia Rivisitata (A Review of Sicily), a program in 4 episodes for RAI, when De Seta went back to the places he had shot during the fifties, unveiling the radical environmental and anthropological changes which had taken place in 25 years time". The documentary leads us not only to Sicily but also to Sardinia, the lands of the Pastori di Orgosolo (Shepherds at Orgosolo), Un Giorno in Barbagia (A Day in Barbagia), and Banditi a Orgosolo (The Bandits of Orgosolo), his first feature film. It takes us to the suburbs of Rome described in Diario di un Maestro (A Teacher's Diary) and through the oneiric dimension of Un Uomo a Metà (A Man in Halves), a significant work for De Seta, which experiments with photography from the point of view of psycho-analysis. The documentary is enriched by the sharp contributions of Luciano Tovoli, Director of Photography.
