Naples, 2000. Rosa Ricci is fifteen and has a parentage that weighs heavily on her: her father is one of the city’s most feared crime lords. When she’s kidnapped by a drug dealer who has it in for her father, she finds herself on an island, a prisoner. She starts down a path of personal growth there, forming a bond that endows her with a new awareness and resilience. While her father unleashes a war to save her, Rosa isn’t going to wait around: she plans her escape.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
Io sono Rosa Ricci is an action drama that weds emotional clout to entertainment. It’s a prequel to The Sea Beyond, with an original look at Rosa and her coming of age after losing her father’s protection and being thrust into a hostile environment where she fights for her freedom. The only positive is Victor, the young narco and jailer who becomes her ally, discovering the meaning of life in the process. The story is set in Naples, where Don Salvatore claws his way back, and the imaginary island of the mobster Agustín, half-Mediterranean, half-Atlantic, with the air of a contemporary western. Cementing the film’s identity: the landscapes, languages, actors, and a soundtrack that mingles modernity and tradition.
