Unfolding across many years, the characters in It Will Happen Tonight encounter passionate interludes of love and loss, unexpected beginnings and endings, that will restore your faith in romantic destiny and the wild logic of the heart.
Matteo (Garrel) first meets Greta (Trinca) in Rome. He’s playing tennis and — en route to her own wedding — she stops for a round with this stranger. Greta wipes the floor with Matteo and, with a beguiling smile, dashes off to be married. Matteo is lovestruck, but what can he do?
Years later, Matteo, in San Sebastián to attend a Bruce Springsteen concert, sees Greta searching for her missing daughter. Their paths cross. Later still, Matteo spots Greta once again in a Rome café. She’s still with her husband, deeply focused on motherhood, and Matteo has a new wife.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
What struck me immediately when reading Eshkol Nevo’s stories was the precision with which he portrays relationships and the depth of feeling they convey. They are stories about love, encounters and partings, but also about parents and their grown-up children, and all those bonds that accompany us – more or less quietly – throughout our lives.
The emotional resonance and shared themes I found in these stories made me think they could become a film with a unified plot. Together with screenwriters Federica Pontremoli and Valia Santella, we started picking the stories that had moved us the most.
Sometimes we borrowed a relationship, sometimes a character, and sometimes all we kept was a single image. Beyond the intensity of their emotions, what struck me in these stories was their powerful sense of time and missed opportunities. From that came the desire to tell a love story – but one in which a woman and a man always meet at the wrong moment. What drives the characters is the hope of another chance, the willingness to believe that life always has one more possibility in store for us, that there will always be a time when things can still happen. That the moment will finally come.
Succederà questa notte is a film about love and the courage to speak it aloud: to let feelings find their voice, to admit without holding back that we care for one another, to say, without fear or embarrassment, that we love each other.
