Soul of the seasons is a poetic and visually curated narrative of the peculiar feelings that every season embodies, told through a high-spirited panorama of the continual and interactive navigation of mankind, us, within this eternal calendar that both stimulates and wearies us a bit.
In the film, ecstatic and suspended moments alternate with scenes marked by vibrant human effervescence. It’s a journey woven from both the tangible and the symbolic, the sacred and the profane. Some moments are closely tied to the calendar, while others exist beyond time. Each season carries within it elements we love and elements we hate. Meanings, symbols, and expectations. And we, as actors, act and react in the comedy of life. On the stage of time, which offers itself to us, even as it passes by, indifferent.
An autumn storm crashing against the coast, the remembrance of the dead on a day suspended in rural fog, the resting of the land. The daily work routine, while Christmas decorations are already peeking in, eventually arriving with great clamor.
A ritualistic swim and the snow. Gazing at the sky to figure out what’s coming. Then the green returns, bare shoulders and passions begin to reemerge. The bittersweet end of school, and the dialects that summer confronts - so luminous in its light that guides us to new places. But it won’t last long: one final divergent swim reopens the calendar.
It’s a tactile and cinematic narrative of fragments of life that are often underrepresented, yet deeply vital, emotional, humorous, and empathetic. The approach is mostly observational and rooted in the cinèma du rèel, yet open to cinematic soundscapes and spontaneous interactions.
By turning our gaze to the everyday-ordinar-yet-essential living, and to the value of the ‘daily any-ness’, the film creates multiple opportunities for connection with the scenes it presents. It lays the foundation for personal reflection on the cyclical nature of time, the recognition of traces from one’s own experience, and the components of enthusiasm, energy, direction, and life’s ineffability.
