In the heart of Rome, hidden behind the tourist-laden alleyways of Trastevere lies an ancient Benedictine monastery. Here lives a group of cloistered nuns who uphold a thousand-year-old tradition: crafting the pallium, a liturgical ornament made of lamb’s wool, worn by the Pope and metropolitan archbishops. Shortly after birth, the lambs are entrusted to the care of the nuns, who raise them with devotion until their wool can be sheared. They then spin, weave, and embroider the threads themselves — each gesture a quiet act of faith.
Within the monastery walls, in a world suspended between silence and song, prayer and labour, their work becomes a living expression of faith.
