Twenty years later, Claudio Sestieri retraces the path of his film Call Me Salomè—a
postmodern cinematic reinterpretation of Oscar Wilde’s legendary play—with a
creative documentary built on three interwoven layers:
1. Sequences from Call Me Salomè, shot in 2005, screened at festivals in 2006,
released in theaters and later on platforms starting in 2008.
2. Never-before-seen backstage footage filmed on the set at the time.
3. A contemporary revisit of the places where the film was shot and edited, enriched
with archival material on Salomè as a cultural figure, alongside other recurring
mythical archetypes.
From painting to literature to cinema, examples of visionary movies
connected to her, and testimonies from those who took part in the original
production.
A single narrative thread gradually expands the scope—moving beyond
Salomè to embrace the archetypal figure of the femme fatale, the eternal
inspiration behind every Dark lady and Dark girl of Noir Cinema, and the
universe of non-realist cinema, guided by the narration of the voice-over of
the author-director.
