Catartis - preserving the future is a journey into the world of contemporary art that not only gathers testimonies from artists and professionals, but also offers a previously unseen backstage glimpse—one might say "stolen"—from the eye of a director who, by chance and then necessity, passionately gathered these precious fragments. Hundreds of hours of footage were assembled into 94 minutes, following a logic that emerged from the material itself, through similarities and dissonances, connecting vessels within the threads of over two decades of planned and accidental encounters. The protagonists will reveal some secrets and offer new perspectives. Each artist embodies a unique identity that no one else could have invented. From the complexities of conceptual art, explored by Joseph Kosuth, to the Arte Povera of Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jannis Kounellis, and Giulio Paolini. From Carla Accardi and Getulio Alviani to the mold-breaking works of Alighiero Boetti, Luigi Ontani, and Jimmie Durham... And more: Gülsün Karamustafa, Emilia Kabakov, Julio Le Parc, Fabrice Hyber, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Franz West, Alberto Biasi, Achille Perilli, Marco Tirelli, Domenico Bianchi, Marilù Eustachio, Daniele Puppi, Felice Levini, Renato Mambor, Donatella Spaziani, HH Lim, Ileana Florescu, Luca Patella... and many others. There are also two rock stars, Gianna Nannini and Patti Smith... a soundtrack by Paolo Fresu (Tuk Music).
Chiara Bertola, art historian and curator, director of the GAM museum in Turin, explains some key aspects, including the importance of "preserving the future," a concept that gives the film its title.
