Antonia and Cecilia couldn't be more different. Antonia is a cultured 30 year-old; a few years ago, she published a book that was highly acclaimed by critics, but then without explanation, she stopped writing and now works as a waitress in a bar in Milan. Cecilia is an 18 year-old from a wealthy Milanese family, a content creator with millions of followers. Antonia and Cecilia will develop a symbiotic relationship that will make them love, suffer and grow, transforming them into different women.

DIRECTOR’S NOTES:
With my fifth film (until I was 50, I was only a screenwriter), I think the time has come to present my work to you.
"Il profilo dell'altra" – because of its themes and style – seems to me perfectly suited for an international showcase; not to mention the debt – more or less obvious – it owes to French culture, music, and cinema: just consider that the film's most important sequence was shot in Paris, a place mentioned several times throughout the narrative.
With this film, I ventured into uncharted territory: outside of Rome and into a world – that of women – which had never been central to my storytelling. This led me to populate the crew—in addition to the cast—with women: the director of photography, the sound engineer, the production designer, the assistant director… This female predominance around me brought a breath of fresh air to my working methods, as well as to the very aesthetics of the film, shaking up many of my certainties and leading me down a different path.
My connection to this story remains rather mysterious to me, and perhaps that's a good thing. In any case, the more I watch it, the more I discover a world of meanings and subtexts that may not have been entirely clear to me, even when I wrote and filmed it.
