A "normal" pregnancy, which had been documented within the intimacy of the director’s own family, was compromised at week 27. This resulted in her going into labor after 6 months, instead of 40 weeks. Due to pre-eclampsia, at 6 months, Anna Mia was born. Her weight was only 740 gr. She was hospitalised for three months in the neonatal intensive care unit of Sant'Anna Hospital of Turin. In three very long months, she made a little progress, and gained a small amount of weight. This story has become the meaning for the film’s author, as a way of not losing hope, even in the face of adversity. That was her positive way to react to adversities- without losing an innate primal instinct for life.
