In the heart of Irpinia, human presence is becoming increasingly rare, and wind turbines are growing in place of wheat. Vito, however, has decided to stay and take care of the Mefite spring, in a relationship that strongly expresses the precarious balance between humans and nature.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
Mefite stems from a personal need to address a topic that is very dear to me: the complex relationship between humans and nature and the disruption of the ecosystem balance that has led to the climate crisis we find ourselves in. In the picturesque and windy Ansanto Valley, this issue is very evident and is expressed in the controversial relationship between the depopulation of the region and the invasive presence of wind turbines, fuelled by speculation. The relationship between Vito, the Mefite spring and the wind turbines allowed me to imagine a story that, mixing reality and magic, could stimulate reflection in the audience based on the visual and narrative suggestions presented. At the origin of every environmental struggle there is always a first spark. This short film does not aim to explain or provide answers on the subject, but rather to try to be that spark.
