The Italian director award-winning Mimmo Verdesca tells the story of the legendary Italian movie star Alida Valli (worked with Visconti, Hitchcock, Welles, Bertolucci, Argento ect.), through the unpublished words of her letters and diaries that come back to life through the actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno’s voice, enriching it with other exclusive materials: photographs, home movies in 8mm, new interviews with her sons, relatives, friends and collaborators, including Dario Argento, Roberto Benigni, Bernardo Bertolucci, Charlotte Rampling, Vanessa Redgrave, Margarethe von Trotta, Thierry Frémaux among the others, and much more archive material from all over the world.
The documentary “Alida (Alida Valli: In Her Own Words)”, in official selection at Cannes Classics 2020, shows a complete and unseen portrait of the life of a beautiful young girl from Pula (Istria) who quickly became one of the most famous and beloved actresses of Italian and international cinema who, in 2021, would be 100.
