In August 2020, the American artist Lawrence Weiner presented TRACCE/TRACES, an exhibition produced by MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome and curated by Luca Lo Pinto, which aimed to bring the exhibition form out of conventional spaces and into the sky. Ten aerial banners flew along the coastline most popular with Romans, between Anzio and Ladispoli. Presenting a work each day, the banners consisted of a single verb that suggested and action that could have happened in the past or could be expected for the future. The movie offers an intimate look into the reactions and reflections of the beachgoers and passers-by and aims to explore the effect that contemporary art has on a diverse public, mostly unaware of the exhibition’s existence.
