Expectant Lucy is joined in England by her mother, Roberta, and sister, hailing from Palermo, as they prepare for the imminent birth. Lucy, who departed Palermo five years prior to pursue music studies in England, intends to return post-birth. Unsure of Kitim's suitability as a partner, the father of her unborn child whom she met one evening, Lucy grapples with their long-distance relationship. Upon their return to Palermo, Lucy and Kitim seek refuge in a support house but face challenges securing permanent accommodation, ultimately settling in Roberta's cramped two-room apartment. As Lucy confronts the stark reality of dashed hopes, she embarks on a journey of self-renewal.
Director's note
Portraying the daily life of their family during such a delicate transition is a precious opportunity to reflect on universal parental dynamics and on the female reality, which still struggles to achieve emotional and economic independence. Some questions linger: can we break free from our past, from relationships that didn't work out between our parents, and from the unconscious temptation to follow their path? And when we choose not to repeat the mistakes of our ancestors, to what extent is it a free choice rather than a stubborn need to oppose them? Is it possible, as women, to pursue our personal and artistic fulfillment without conflicting with our relationships with our children and partners? The film provides a space for empathy without judgment, an opportunity to embark on my own - extraordinary - journey of companionship, alongside women who, like all of us, ponder on how to get closer to themselves every day.
