The Quartiere Fanello on the outskirts of Vittoria, Italy, is a district of dilapidated public housing. Vittoria itself is a city that has prospered from its greenhouses, which supply fresh produce to supermarkets across Italy. Yet, Fanello stands in stark contrast—a neighborhood seemingly abandoned by both God and man. The sole presence of the state here is an elementary school, attended by children of diverse ethnicities from all over the world. A documentary, created with the help of the teachers and children, tells three poignant stories from this quarter: that of a Romanian boy paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, the aspirations of a Tunisian boy who dreams of becoming an architect, and the journey of a local Vittoria boy who prefers tending sheep to school, aiming to become a shepherd when he grows up.
