A new episode, the fifth, of the Rai Cultura series Dai nostri inviati. La Rai racconta la Mostra del Cinema, spanning the years from 1990 to 2000. It’s a chronicle of those editions, in chronological order: from Warren Beatty to Javier Bardem, from Guglielmo Biraghi to Alberto Barbera, from Vincenzo Mollica to Vincenzo Mollica.
It’s the final decade of the twentieth century... when the red carpet was blue.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
The uniqueness of this work lies above all in the long pause that separates the four stories — which, from 1932 to 1989, outline six decades of cinema at the Lido, presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival from 2010 to 2013 — from this final instalment, dedicated to the final decade of the twentieth century.
It was indeed 2013: the years from 1990 to 2000 were too close together; a pause was needed. A twelve-year pause.
Today, those chronicles mark the time: after thirty years, they have become historical sources. They are analogue images, often marked by electronic drops, harking back to a bygone era of technological development.
Our correspondents are filmed with imposing cameras, but they have begun to make appointments with their cell phones.
There is no nostalgia for those chronicles, viewed with a historiographical approach, through the eyes of those who lived them then.
The magnifying glass is on the Mostra del Cinema, on the faces of the star system and on a passionate audience: it sketches a society full of hope, unaware — naturally — of the years to come.
