In Turin, a group of young Iranian women founded Homa, a women’s football team born from a desire for freedom and self-determination. None of them are professional players: they play out of passion, to build bonds, to finally feel free. In Iran, they were forced to cover themselves and to obey rules that severely restrict women’s rights; in Italy, they study, work, train, and try to rebuild an everyday life far from home.
The film follows their journey over the course of a year through the Balon Mundial, an annual football tournament for migrant communities held in the city, marked by the sudden eruption of war into their lives: the distance from their country of origin turns into fear for their families, tension within the community, and painful questions about what it means to belong to a beloved and wounded homeland.
In this suspended time, running without a veil, shouting together, falling and getting back up become simple yet powerful gestures of resistance. The film gives voice to a generation often invisible to our gaze: young Iranian women suspended between exile and belonging, capable of transforming nostalgia and pain into community, courage, and a desire for the future.
