Forty years after their debut on the airwaves of Radio Popolare, the Gialappa’s band looks back on its professional history in a film directed by Walter Veltroni. With his focused and original perspective, the director reviews four decades of comedy, invention and irony, retracing the careers of Giorgio Gherarducci, Marco Santin and Carlo Taranto, three towering figures who revolutionised the language of entertainment in Italy. The Absurd Story of the Gialappa’s Band explores the creative universe of the legendary trio and the mark they left with their unique brand of comedy, which has spanned generations and become an integral part of Italian popular culture.

Director's Statement

Forty years, it sounds incredible. Yet it happened. They are still kids, those three. The white hair is deceiving, they haven’t changed. The Gialappi still want to make people laugh. An act of absolute generosity, were it not that they themselves are the ones having fun, ever since their days on Radio Popolare.
