With irony and wonder, the puppet comes to life and becomes the narrator of his own story, which would win hearts and minds the world over. A journey between memory and imagination, between past and present, in which Pinocchio is not just a character, but a universal mirror of childhood, the desire to become human, and the ability of stories to travel across the world and time.
Director's Statement
Every child in the world dreams of growing up and finding a proper place in the world, yet faces struggles and often feels wrong or out of place. Pinocchio’s story is about this journey, and this is the main reason why it is so relevant. In Italy, we had always seen Pinocchio as a symbol of Italian identity. But then, while researching, we stumbled upon another story, the story of a little puppet who was adopted by everyone and every culture. Pinocchio becomes almost a toolbox puppet for all seasons, the way he has been re-invented, manipulated, celebrated or misunderstood!
