During ten years, Reina del Pueblo (Queen of the People) portrays Naomy, a young Afro-Colombian woman forced by her mother into pageants and crowned in Cartagena's most popular contest. As she also becomes a mother, her life, and that of several generations, reveals the weight of female roles in a city plagued by sex tourism and violence.
